VEGETAL SOAP
FROM VIRGIN OLIVE OIL 100%
Soaps consist
of an alkali salt of fatty acids that are contained like glycerines
in the natural fatty substances.
Since soaps
are obtained by saponification of different natural and synthetic
fats and oils (from petroleum), they are blends of alkali salts
of different fatty acids in varying percentages, depending on
the raw material used.
HISTORY
The use of
soap dates from the ancient past, probably in the region of Mesopotamia,
(today's Syria), cradle of the most important Neolithic civilizations.
We believe
that Romans learned from Greeks soap manufacturing, and during
the excavations of Pompeii a soap factory completely equipped
was discovered together with a quantity of soap escaped from the
destruction.
Up XIV century,
Italians and Spanish were the only soap producers, introducing
it in industrial scale between XIV and XVI century; in this period
the main ports like Genoa, Savona Marseille and Venice became
proper soap "emporium".
The reason
is that olive oil, that the Mediterranean area was rich of, was
the only fatty material used to produce soap.
The row material
high cost, the new availability of soda (instead of the wood cinders)
led soap industry of the past century to leave noble olive oil
for more low-cost seed oils, up to use fats of animal origin that
now international market offers at very favourable conditions,
like "waste" of an alimentation more and more rich in
beef and pork meat.
Fortunately during these last years there was the reversal of
the trend, both in the alimentary habit and in the care and selection
of the products we use every day for body and face cleansing.
Before purely
economic reasons, ever more often, we put the "health"
ones that aim to the prevention from damages and to the body care.
In conclusion
we tend to ameliorate the life quality in a broad sense, respecting
the natural equilibrium.
The nowadays knowledge and technologies are not erased for an
inconvenient useless and impossible return to the origin, if anything
they are used to recover and exalt the best our tradition can
offer.
Olivella results from
this idea, a soap that meets the new needs and at the same time
is a traditional and innovative product.
TOILET SOAP CHARACTERISTICS
Fin toilet soaps are usually
produced using beef tallow (80-85% of the fatty matter) and coconut
oil (15-20%).
Beef tallow would give
a too hard soap, with a little slow lather; adding coconut oil
is essential to obtain a more soluble soap, giving a fast and
rich lather.
These percentages of coconut
oil, with beef tallow, consent an easy saponification, but the
soap resulted is too cleansing.
Salts obtained from fatty
matters do not have nothing in common with our skin and cleansing
deeply make it too dry after every washing.
The solutions to solve
these problems are often obvious:
a) decreasing the percentage
of soap in favour of other additives, lowering the purity grade
that in many cases does not exceed 40% of soapy salts;
b) Producing a large range
of "soaps not soaps", obtained from petroleum hydrocarbons
or by fractional distillation of fatty acids of different fatty
matters.
These soaps are very gently
in cleansing but their components have nothing in common with
the lipidic layer enveloping and protecting face and body skin.
But their cost is so high
to make them often classified like "products to be sold in
pharmacy" instead of "toilet soap"
OLIVELLA CARACHTERISTICS
FATTY INGREDIENTS
OLIVELLA presents all the characteristics of a green soap, obtained
by hydrolysis (separation) of olive oil triglycerides in their
components (glycerine and fatty acids) thanks to an aqueous solution
of alkaline hydroxide.
The percentage of salts
of fatty acids (soap) contained in our product is very high (90%)
and consents to classify it like "a soap with a high grade
of purity and quality".
What makes it noble is
the absence of beef tallow or other fats of animal origin.
The fatty matter used
in our saponification is 100% virgin olive oil; the best can be
used for its high content of oleic acid and for its precious unsaponifiable
matters.
During the saponification
process the following results are obtained:
a) salts, rich in oleic
acid, are dermatological more related to the skin lipidic layer
and consequently are less aggressive than others
b) The majority of the unsaponifiable compounds pass in soap without
altering itself. This important fraction is composed of waxes
that have a solely protective function (against dehydration, intense
light, etc), squalene, sterols and fatty superior alcohols the
anti-aging action of which is known from a long time. These substances,
not by coincidence, are today largely used in cosmetics and pharmacology.
c) The soapy paste is absolutely deprived of protein of animal
origin, often responsible of phenomenon causing allergies and
skin intolerances.
To give an idea of the
OLIVELLA extreme gentleness, we remind that during silk manufacturing
the best product to wash the cocoon raw thread is until now the
soft soap, made from olive oil. It is preferred to any other type
of detergent since it eliminates the waxes surrounding the silk
thread (thin height times more than a hair), perfectly respecting
its fibre.
PERFUME
Olivella paste exhales
a natural pleasant flavour, due to the qualities of its vegetal
components. It consents to add a minimum percentage of perfume:
only 0,5%. It is a fragrance totally natural that gently perfumes
soap and develops itself during the use, without persisting on
the skin, avoiding interfering with the perfume normally used.
For its quality and percentage,
the risk of irritations or allergies due to perfume is practically
eliminated.
COLOUR
OLIVELLA is an innovative
soap also for its colour. Its green colour is due only to the
presence of natural chlorophyll, contained in virgin olive oil,
the percentage of which is not constant and uniform. The decision
of not to add neither artificial colouring agents nor colour fixing
agents is courageous since light and oxygen tend to modify the
chlorophyll structure, altering its brightness and the tones intensity.
We preferred to direct our attention on the packaging, leaving
the way of standardization and common practice, sure that consumer
is able to perceive the value of the product also in the possibly
colour nuances.
SHAPE AND WEIGHT
OLIVELLA shape is sober
and the weight 5.29 oz (gr. 150) is calculated on the base of
the time of a medium use, considering the delicacy of its paste.
It should result of an easy daily use, protracted for a not too
long and not too short time. Finally OLIVELLA should resist enough
to hold all its characteristics and peculiar properties.
PACKAGING
We took an extremely care
of the OLIVELLA packaging, not only to take care of the image
that is important too, but to meet the precise needs of the nature
of this soap.
Soap is wrapped in a thin
wax paper protecting it carefully from light, dump and oxidant
agents present in the air. The paper white colour is not casual
since it contributes to the final result.
Every single box reinforces
this protection and aim to the immediate remark of its components.

WHY OLIVELLA
Nowadays consumers are
very demanding since they require soap with a soft lather, gently
in cleansing, easy to use, delicately perfumed.
The daily hygienic habits,
extremely changed during the time, make the consumers chose products
not very aggressive and degreasing, until the use of the soap
"not soap".
Unfortunately very often
consumers chose a brand or another basing themselves more on smelling
and sight than of its components, thinking, erroneously, that
they have the same quality.
All soaps, of medium price,
have a composition of salts obtained from animal tallow and coconut
oil in different percentage, and relegated olive oil soap in a
market niche because too expensive or difficult to find (only
in herbalist's shops on in a few specialised shops).
Who conceived and realized
OLIVELLA spent a long time, experimenting advanced technologies
that could give again lustre and modernity to an old and precious
soap.
The desire to recover
tradition, with the awareness of the modern needs, rewarded the
effort.
A really exceptional new
soap born because it gets together TRADITION and INNOVATION
TRADITION since virgin
olive oil is the only fatty matter used and gives itself an important
reason of sale, for the product naturalness and preciousness.
INNOVATION because the final quality/quantity formula, thanks
to the limited and balanced quantity of added products, makes
it stiff at the right point, gently for its soft lather, perfumed
as needed and easy to keep and use.
Finally the ratio QUALITY/QUANTITY
can not be disregarded, allowing today any product to compete
on the market; so in all these aspects we think to have reached
the best result possible.
Benefits of Olivella 100% virgin olive oil soap
Olivella has several beneficial
effects, among them:
1. Moisturizing effect
Thanks to its glycerine content, its polyhidroxy triterpenes tending
to bind water, its long chain linear alcohols.
For these reasons the moisturizing effect of olive oil soap is
exercised in large degree if compared with other soaps;
2. Antibacterial and antifungal
effect
Even if any soap has this effect because of the presence of sodium
salts, the olive oil soap contains simple and complex phenols
possessing antifungal properties in the higher degree than soaps
of other origins
3. Action Anti-Aging skin
effect
Thanks to the presence of vitamin E, carotenes, fatty alcohols
and linoleic acid, the olive oil soap exercises in high degree
this beneficial effect
4. Antioxidant effect
Thanks to the phenols present in olive oil, well known for the
high stability they confer to the oil and consequently to the
soap deriving from it, and thanks to the special technology of
Umbria Olii that eliminates even traces of metals, present in
other fatty materials that act as pro-oxidant.
No other soap has a so pronounced antioxidant and anti-radical
effect.
5. Skin non irritant effect
Olive oil soap is non-irritant and exercises a beneficial protective
effect because of its composition in glycerine, long chain fatty
alcohols, carotenes, Vitamin E, triterpenes and triterpenic acids
